Arthur Beyer
May 23–October 18, 2026
This cabinet exhibition is dedicated to the work of the St.Gallen artist Arthur Beyer, who developed a distinctive painterly visual language out of his practice as a graphic designer. The exhibition focuses on his late period from 1967 onward, during which Beyer devoted himself intensively to oil painting.
Through recurring groups of motifs, Beyer condensed everyday subjects such as railway station scenes and urban views into striking compositions. Clear lines, reduced planes, and a distinctive use of colour characterize his formalized, seemingly anonymous compositions, which are nevertheless marked by considerable analytical precision. Beyer’s work was driven by a search for universal structural principles, which he explored both artistically and theoretically. By inviting comparative viewing, the exhibition opens up a systematic approach to his oeuvre.
