Diogo Graf – Poetik der Abstraktion

May 16–November 2, 2025

As part of its Cabinet series, the Kunstmuseum St.Gallen is organising a series of focused exhibitions highlighting significant artists from its collection. The inaugural exhibition presents the work of St.Gallen artist Diogo Graf (born in Ceara, Brazil, in 1896; passed away in St.Gallen in 1966). After studying at the teacher training col lege in Rorschach, Graf dedicated his career to teaching in the canton and city of St.Gallen. Grafbegan his artistic journey in the 1930s, initially drawing inspiration from Fauvism and early Cubism. However, in 1938, he transitioned to abstract painting, establishing himself as a pioneer of abstraction in Switzerland. This teacher became a trailblazer for many artists in St.Gallen and the surrounding region.
