Forward to the Past

Pictures and sculptures tell stories. Where do they come from? Where were they before they came to the museum? Who did they belong to, and how did they become part of the collection? Provenance research examines these questions. The exhibition Forward to the Past: Stories of Provenance from the collection presents a wide variety of paths, illustrious previous owners, dramatic histories, solved mysteries, and open questions about the orgins of artworks at the museum.
