Heimspiel 2024

LA RESERVOIR

December 14, 2024 - March, 2, 2025, Kunstmuseum

Every three years, Heimspiel offers a platform for artists from Vorarlberg, Fürstentum Liechtenstein and the cantons Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Appenzell Innerrhoden, Glarus, St. Gallen and Thurgau. The format connects artists and institutions and showcases the region's diverse art scene. This year's edition of Heimspiel takes place in Kunstraum Dornbirn, Kunsthaus Glarus, Kunstmuseum St. Gallen, Werk2 in Arbon and at Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen.

The title of this exhibition applies a French term (with the incorrect article, intentionally) to works by a group of artists as part of the Heimspiel program. The English word reservoir is derived from the French réservoir, meaning “storage” or “container.” In this context, its use suggests that we might view art as a reliable source of ideas and as a refuge for the future. Themes such as sources, preservation, sustainability, transformation and change are all points of reference for the exhibition, which explores how artists draw from a reservoir of ideas, how art might serve as a reservoir for cultural heritage and societal renewal and in what ways art facilitates change and development. The exhibition hall on the lower level of the Kunstmuseum St.Gallen, with its numerous pillars, itself evokes a reservoir – one that might provide both protection and inspiration, and which offers visitors an immersive experience.
